POSITION: Parking Maintenance

This position follows all provisions of the SMART/UTU TD collective bargaining agreement.


REPORTS TO:
Parking Services Manager

LOCATION: ALB

AIRPORT: Albany International Airport


SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Parking Services Manager, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and order of all the public and private parking lots at the Albany International Airport. This position may require occasional overtime, with evening and weekend shift work. Duties and assignments may be changed periodically.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include but are not limited to the following; Other duties may be assigned.


  • Responds to reports of malfunctioning equipment. Performs minor repairs and maintenance.

  • Re-supplies ticket stock as necessary.

  • Keeps parking lots and areas around entryways, exit plazas and buildings free of trash and other debris. Empties trash receptacles and ashtrays as required.

  • Performs janitorial duties in the parking lots and parking buildings; including the changing of light bulbs, spot cleaning soda and coffee stains; cleaning all stainless steel, including hand rails; and vacuuming staircases; sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning glass, etc.

  • Washing garage floors and stairwells as directed.

  • Snow and ice removal, plows, snow blows and shovels walkways, entry and exit plazas, parking lots roadways and garages. Applies various ice melting products throughout all of the parking facilities.
  • Assists with customer assistance initiatives (i.e., vehicle jumpstarts, adding air in tires, assistance with locating vehicles). Presents a friendly and helpful image.

  • Performs general maintenance and upkeep of Economy-Lot Comfort Station and bus shelters. Washes and cleans bus shelters as required.

  • Assists construction efforts by providing traffic control, staging assistance and passenger assistance.

  • Removing and relocation of portable signs and barriers.

  • Operates maintenance equipment in lot areas and along curbing and commercial lanes.

  • Maintains landscaped areas in and around all parking lots and buildings.

  • Monitor traffic and assist with directing traffic during peak periods of operation.

  • Participates in Total Quality Management Programs.

  • Cleans, washes, waxes, and fuels parking vehicles as requested.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED. Prior experience in general maintenance.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

  • Ability to read and to recognize similarities and differences between words and series of numbers.
  • Ability to print and speak sentences.
  • Ability to read comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of American money.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished orally or in writing.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to follow established rules and operate a variety of equipment in a safe manner.

  • Strong oral communication skills, good judgment, assertiveness, courtesy and tact necessary to work effectively with diverse groups of people including the general public.


CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license as a condition of employment. May be asked to acquire a CDL.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. The incumbent will be required to perform physical work.
  • Physical abilities to perform assigned work:
    • Adequate hearing, correctable vision and manual dexterity to operate equipment safely.
    • Ability to perform physical work including operating mechanical equipment for extended periods of time, climbing stairs, and working from ladders, etc.
    • Ability to regularly lift moderately heavy objects up to 50lbs., including small equipment and supplies.
  • The work requires an employee to follow established safety procedures in operating equipment and vehicles, handling irritant materials, performing repetitive activities, etc.
  • Employees may be required to wear protective clothing as needed.
