About Public Health AI Training

AI training is the human work behind reliable artificial intelligence. Experts review model outputs, identify errors, write strong examples, and provide detailed feedback so AI systems can reason more accurately and safely.

In this project, your public health knowledge will help evaluate answers involving epidemiology, prevention, policy, surveillance, and population health. Your judgment can help models communicate evidence responsibly across different populations and settings.

  • Review and rate AI-generated text
  • Fact-check health and epidemiologic claims
  • Identify unsafe recommendations and misleading reasoning
  • Create expert examples that demonstrate sound public health analysis

The Role

OpenTrain is seeking a Public Health AI Evaluation Expert to review AI-generated public health and population-health responses. You will assess answers for correctness, clarity, safety, scientific rigor, and quality of reasoning while creating expert public health content when needed.

This is a remote contractor role requiring 20 or more hours per week. The project is listed as entry level, while the role requirements call for at least five years of professional public health experience.

  • Role focus: Public Health AI Response Review
  • Data type: Text
  • Work types: Evaluation and rating, plus text generation
  • Schedule: 20+ hours per week
  • Pay: $45 to $70 USD per hour

What You'll Do

You will evaluate model responses and produce precise feedback grounded in public health evidence and practice. The work requires careful attention to causal claims, statistical reasoning, safety, and how guidance applies across populations and settings.

  • Review AI responses on epidemiology, public health practice, prevention, policy, and risk communication.
  • Compare multiple model answers and score them for correctness, clarity, and scientific rigor.
  • Identify unsafe recommendations, misleading causal claims, and weak evidence interpretation.
  • Create gold-standard answers and detailed prompts when expert public health content is needed.
  • Validate that public health guidance is reliable across different populations and settings.
  • Fact-check statistical claims and identify errors in epidemiologic reasoning or study interpretation.
  • Check surveillance logic, health-systems concepts, rates, risks, denominators, and time horizons.

Requirements

Applicants should bring substantial professional public health experience and strong written English communication. You must be able to explain complex reasoning clearly, spot subtle flaws, and distinguish reliable guidance from unsafe or unsupported recommendations.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Policy, Global Health, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional public health experience in government, NGOs, academia, healthcare systems, global health, consulting, or similar work.
  • Strong command of epidemiologic reasoning, causality, bias and confounding, screening concepts, vaccination principles, and population-level disease processes.
  • Minimum C1 English proficiency.
  • Excellent attention to detail and clear written communication in English.
  • Knowledge of health equity, social determinants of health, and risk communication for uncertain or evolving evidence.

Preferred Background

Experience connecting public health expertise with structured review or evidence-based content development is especially useful for this work.
