MHS Restorative Learning Center Teacher

Maryville High School is seeking an highly qualified teacher to support students with behavioral concerns and/or disengagement from the school environment. This individual will work with counselors, adminsitrators and teachers to develop positive behavior supports school wide.

Qualifications:

Highly qualified teacher with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups, and systems through the application of positive behavior supports.
Highly qualified teacher with a minimum of five years successful secondary classroom teaching experience in which the teaching of "at risk" and/or "behaviorally challenged" students was an important responsibility of the position.
Expert knowledge for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior.
Expert knowledge of techniques to compose Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and behavior contracts.
Expertise in de-escalation skills.

Job Description:

Assist staff in defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of reinforcement; teaching new behavior; implementing strategies for weakening behavior; and identifying antecedents.
Provide direct behavior intervention to students through a pull out and push in model, where the direct supervision ensures a safe, non-threatening, nurturing environment where student can thrive.
Train, mentor cultivate specific behavior intervention skillsets with the full-time teaching assistants assigned.
Build capacity with administrators, individual teachers, individual teaching assistants, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that affect development and implementation of interventions.
Develop a repertoire of behavior and assessment strategies to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support and restorative practices in their classrooms.
Provide expert knowledge regarding behavior contracts, trauma informed practices, Behavior Intervention Plans, behavior data collection tools, Restorative Practices, and School-wide Positive Behavioral Support.
Ability to work collaboratively with the school counselor(s), school psychologist(s) and school administrators to provide consistent and reliable support to students and teachers.

Job Requirements:

Ability to lift and/or physically manage students of varying sizes and weight
All applicants must have the ability to perform any physical duties associated with this position (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of time, etc.).
Special Education Certification and/or willingness to add this certification.
FSLA Exempt.
