Licensed Practical Nurse - Best Paying Nursing Job Without a Degree

Other Jobs To Apply

About the Role

The Elite Job is placing licensed LPNs (Licensed Practical Nurses) with long-term care facilities, home health agencies, correctional health programs, physician offices, and acute care hospitals across the United States. LPN is the best-paying nursing career path available without a four-year college degree — LPNs earn $26 – $38 per hour, and the BLS reports median annual wages of $60,080 with consistent demand growth in every US market. A one-year practical nursing diploma and passing the NCLEX-PN examination are the entry requirements — not a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

What You Will Do

  • Assess patients and residents within the LPN scope of practice — collecting vital signs, reviewing lab results, and identifying and reporting changes in clinical status
  • Administer medications via oral, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous routes per physician orders and state-specific LPN scope regulations
  • Perform wound assessments and dressing changes, documenting wound characteristics and response to treatment in the clinical record
  • Insert and care for urinary catheters, perform nasogastric tube feedings, and manage ostomy care per patient care plan
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens including blood draws via venipuncture, urine cultures, and wound cultures
  • Communicate patient status changes to the supervising RN or physician and participate in the nursing care planning process
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs and patient care technicians, ensuring safe and dignified care delivery under your licensed supervision
  • Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and patient education provided in the electronic health record thoroughly and on time

What You Need

  • Active LPN/LVN license in the state where you are applying — current and in good standing with no restrictions
  • Current BLS certification
  • Clinical competence in medication administration, wound care, and patient assessment within the LPN scope of practice
  • Strong communication skills for reporting patient status to supervising RNs and physicians clearly and promptly
  • Compassionate, patient-centered approach to nursing care across all patient populations
  • Physical ability to provide direct patient care including lifting, transfers, and sustained physical activity throughout the shift
  • Practical nursing diploma — no four-year college degree required for this role

Nice to Have

  • IV therapy certification in states where LPN IV administration requires additional licensure
  • Gerontological nursing experience in SNF, ALF, or memory care settings
  • Correctional nursing experience in county jail or state prison healthcare
  • LPN to RN bridge program enrollment — we support continuing education

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay of $26 – $38 per hour based on specialty, setting, and shift
  • Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend assignments
  • Full medical, dental, and vision insurance for full-time LPNs
  • 401(k) with employer matching contributions
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and paid holidays
  • Tuition assistance for LPN-to-RN bridge programs at partner institutions
  • Career advancement support toward RN licensure, charge nurse, and unit supervisor roles

LPN is one of the most accessible, most respected, and best-compensating nursing careers available without a four-year college degree. One year of practical nursing school and the NCLEX-PN examination open the door to a healthcare career with genuine job security, competitive wages, and a clear path to RN licensure for those who choose to advance. At The Elite Job, we place LPNs in settings that match their clinical interests and career goals. Apply today with your active license.

The Elite Job is an equal opportunity employer. We place licensed practical nurses in long-term care, home health, acute care, and specialty settings across all 50 US states.
