Freelance PR for Movie and Global Conference

Other Jobs To Apply

We are seeking an experienced freelance Public Relations & Media Relations Consultant for a 2-4 month part-time retainer engagement supporting two ambitious, high-visibility projects and personal brand growth. The two tent-pole projects and other key area are:

1. Where the Mountains Sing

An upcoming feature documentary film centered on Appalachian music, culture, and community, tied to an acclaimed music festival and featuring a number of rising and established a-list musical artists. The movie has a-list talent attached (with a combined social following well in excess of 10m) and coverage for the festival (and movie) already secured from publications including Rolling Stone, People, and more. The movie will be released in January.

2. New Cities Summit

An international conference convening global leaders in urban development, investment, governance, infrastructure, technology, and innovation. The 2026 Summit will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa in December and is expected to attract hundreds of influential attendees from across the world. This project has high-profile participants and partners in the US and Africa and a history of success and media coverage.

3. Personal Brand Building

I’d like to be more recognizable as a creative/executive “brand”. This includes elevating me as a storyteller, producer, and cultural voice, with credibility for future projects that enhances my value to brands/platforms/networks, creating long-tail opportunities. The primary goal of all of these efforts is financial – brand ambassadorships, teaching/speaking opportunities, high-level networking introductions, board and similar opportunities, and more.

Position Summary

We are looking for someone who can build on existing momentum, generate new opportunities and momentum, and enhance brand building and project visibility. We are not looking for someone to simply write or distribute press releases or post to social media (we have a social media manager for each project) – although those elements can be utilized if helpful – but rather we want someone who can see this as a 360-degree opportunity with two notable tent-pole projects as launch pads.

The ideal candidate understands storytelling, media strategy, relationship-building, branding, monetization, and how to position projects across multiple sectors including entertainment, music, business, international affairs, technology, culture, and policy.

This role is ideal for a tenacious, creative independent publicist or small agency with strong media instincts and proven earned-media success.

Responsibilities

- Develop and execute strategic PR and media outreach campaigns for both projects and overall brand building

- Secure earned media coverage, speaking opportunities, thought leadership pieces, media appearances, etc. across relevant outlets (podcasts, newsletters, blogs, TV/radio broadcast, digital publications) with a goal of increasing recognition and awareness of the projects that leads to tangible results – e.g., sponsorships, attendance, viewership, and more

- Build and manage targeted media lists

- Coordinate outreach around key events – announcements, milestones, partnerships, crowdfunding campaign, screenings, sponsorships, and event launches

- Track outreach, placements, and campaign performance

Preferred Experience

- Diverse PR experience – including film, entertainment, music, conference, global development, and events. International or global media relations experience strongly preferred

- Existing relationships with journalists, editors, producers, influencers, and podcast hosts – especially in related fields (movies, music, entertainment, global development, corporate partnerships, etc.)

- Strong writing and pitching ability

- Ability to work independently, proactively, and quickly

- Experience securing meaningful earned media placements

Familiarity with social amplification and influencer engagement is a plus

Compensation

- Approximate Budget: An initial $2,000–$3,000/month retainer depending on experience, network, and scope of work. We will also provide a defined performance bonus for revenue generated – e.g., sponsorships secured – and for major placements or accomplishments.

- Initial Engagement: 3 months, starting ASAP, with a 3 month renewal option and a real opportunity for a long-term partnership

To Apply

Please send us your resume, any links, an introduction letter and anything else you think would be helpful for us to ascertain:

- Relevant PR/media relations experience

- Industries and outlets you’ve worked with

- Examples of placements you personally secured

- Any international media experience

- A brief overview of how you would approach publicity for both a documentary film and a global business summit

We are looking for someone who is strategic, connected, creative, entrepreneurial, and genuinely excited about building visibility for projects with cultural and international impact.

Thank you!
