About the position

Project Bread connects people and communities in Massachusetts to reliable sources of food while advocating policies that make food more accessible—so that no one goes hungry. To assist us in meeting our mission, Project Bread – The Walk for Hunger is seeking a SNAP Enrollment Senior Associate to join our team. At Project Bread, we have a deep commitment to creating positive social change and recognize that hunger and racism are inextricably linked. We work in a fast-paced environment that values learning, innovation, and diverse perspectives. Knowing its centrality to our work, Project Bread is committed to equity and inclusion. We aspire to build a diverse team, including groups that are traditionally underrepresented among our sector leadership. We strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply. The SNAP Enrollment Senior Associate will play a critical role in Project Bread’s mission to end hunger, working to increase SNAP participation and help people navigate the application process from first screening through enrollment and beyond. This bilingual role will work in the East Boston community providing in-person enrollment assistance at health centers and social services organizations, and behind the scenes, tracking applications through the Department of Transportation (DTA) online portal, and helping clients keep their cases moving forward. The Senior Associate will also serve as a front-line connection between Project Bread and the community, promoting SNAP awareness through outreach, workshops, and partnerships with community organizations. The ideal candidate is just as comfortable helping a client through a hard conversation as they are sitting on hold with DTA, tenaciously following up until an application goes through. They can manage their caseload independently, catching the details that keep cases moving, and bring what they hear in the field back to the team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct SNAP eligibility screenings and provide application assistance, in both English and Spanish, to residents across community settings
  • Help clients navigate DTA's online systems, including uploading documents and completing tasks on their behalf when needed
  • Conduct follow-up calls with clients in English or Spanish to confirm interviews, track correspondence, and confirm receipt of EBT cards and other DTA communications
  • Support clients with recertification and interim reporting requirements
  • Liaise with the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) to support timely client enrollment
  • Plan, promote, and lead SNAP presentations and enrollment workshops, delivering content in Spanish as needed for the audience
  • Conduct outreach to raise awareness of SNAP and Project Bread's services within target communities, including Spanish-speaking residents
  • Maintain relationships with community partners (e.g., health centers, local organizations) to support outreach and workshop scheduling
  • Enter and maintain accurate client information in Salesforce and the DTA online portal
  • Scan and upload client documentation to Salesforce and DTA Connect
  • Prepare monthly SNAP application assistance reports
  • Share client trends, themes, and stories with internal teams to inform program and communications work
  • Participate in media or communications activities as needed (e.g., providing content, joining outreach events)
  • Support the annual Walk for Hunger, including working as event staff the weekend of the Walk (first weekend in May), and attending pre-Walk events as assigned.
  • Participate in organization-wide events and meetings.
  • Act to promote, sustain, and grow Project Bread’s positive, productive, and inclusive working environment.

Requirements

  • Relationship building and client service: Builds trust quickly with people from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances, while talking about often personal and sensitive information. Communicates with warmth, patience, and respect, especially when clients are stressed or navigating a difficult system.
  • Strong and adaptable communication: Explains program requirements and next steps clearly and accurately to clients in both English and Spanish, adjusting register and approach for different settings, from a one-on-one screening to a public workshop, and for clients with varying levels of familiarity with government systems and technology.
  • Attention to detail and organization: Enters and maintains client data correctly across multiple systems; catches errors or missing information before they become a problem for the client's case.
  • Independent judgment and follow-through: Works effectively with minimal day-to-day oversight; knows when to solve a problem independently versus when to escalate; follows tasks through to completion without needing reminders.
  • Diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice advancement: Recognizes how systemic barriers and bias affect the clients served; treats every client with dignity regardless of background, and contributes to an inclusive, respectful team environment
  • Committed to Project Bread’s mission of ending hunger in Massachusetts
  • 2+ years of relevant professional experience in case management, social service, or benefit navigation
  • Fluency in Spanish and English is required, both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable delivering presentations or leading workshops to a variety of stakeholders
  • Able to travel reliably to different locations across East Boston throughout the week

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with SNAP and other public benefits a plus but not required
  • Able to learn and use multiple data systems (Salesforce, DTA online portal); prior CRM experience a plus

Benefits

  • health and dental
  • flexible spending accounts
  • retirement plan with match after one year
  • fully paid PFML leave
  • life and long-term disability
  • contributions to commuting costs and wellness expenses
  • flexible paid time off
